Steve Gabel

Steve Gabel has dedicated his career to improving and serving Colorado agriculture and the cattle feeding industry. Born and raised in Weld County Colorado, Steve graduated from Fort Lupton High School in 1975. He attended college at Colorado State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science.

After nearly 4 years working for Cattle-Fax, Gabel spent time with 2 feeding companies in Colorado. In 1993, he and his wife, Audrey acquired a wore out, 3,500 head yard in Wiggins, CO and Magnum Feedyard was born. Since, they have grown Magnum to 35,000 head capacity today. Magnum’s growth and success can be attributed to Gabel’s foresight, adaptation to production technologies and dedication to people. This carries through in consistently making improvements to ensure the highest standards for employee safety, sustainability, and animal welfare, leading Magnum to be named the National BQA Feedyard of the Year in 2017. Gabel and family also run a commercial cow-calf operation on 3 separate ranches in Wyoming and northern Colorado.

Aside from his entrepreneurial endeavors, Steve has also dedicated time volunteering with state and national agricultural associations. Steve is the past chairmen for the Colorado Beef Council; a position he held for fifteen years. Additionally, he is an active member of the Colorado Livestock Association, serving as President in 2009-2010 and has been involved with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. Currently, Gabel serves on the Board of Governors for Colorado State University.
